Veterans Highway, just south of the Crain Highway, was the site of the first fatal crash in Anne Arundel County in 2014. In the two-car collision in Millersville, a BMW was heading south on Veterans Highway on the morning of Jan. 15. The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle, and it careened into oncoming traffic. It was then broad-sided by a Chevrolet Cruze.
Two of the three occupants in the BMW died in the crash. A passenger that survived was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center where the individual was stated to be in stable condition. No injuries apparently occurred to anyone in the Chevrolet. Officers responding to the scene did not believe that alcohol or drugs were factors in the fatal accident. However, the initial investigation did yield a report that excessive speed and/or driver error may have contributed to the wreck.
The two fatalities that occurred in this collision were reported to be the first in the county this year. In 2013, 28 individuals died in Anne Arundel County traffic accidents. By contrast, 39 traffic fatalities occurred in 2012.
